{"id":331051,"date":"2021-05-20T12:35:00","date_gmt":"2021-05-20T10:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/webdev.flars.net\/knowing-each-other-to-enhance-mutual-love\/"},"modified":"2021-05-20T12:35:00","modified_gmt":"2021-05-20T10:35:00","slug":"knowing-each-other-to-enhance-mutual-love","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.together4europe.org\/en\/knowing-each-other-to-enhance-mutual-love\/","title":{"rendered":"Knowing each other to enhance mutual love"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><strong>Europe Day 2021 \u2013 an online journey<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>Empathy, contemplation and action, \u2018<em>ora et labora\u2019<\/em>: these were but some of the key words that marked Europe Day 2021, which this year was organized by about 40 Christian Movements of the ecumenical network <em>Together for Europe<\/em>.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h6><strong>EUROPE NEEDS COHESION, HOPE AND INSPIRATION<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>During the video link-up on May 9, Europe Day, Luigino Bruni, professor of Political Economy at LUMSA (Rome), stated that \u201cIn order to build and safeguard Europe we need to celebrate its feasts!\u201d The topic of the video link-up was \u201c<strong>For the earth and humanity<\/strong>\u201d; about 1000 persons in <strong>Italy<\/strong> took part. He emphasized that from time immemorial feasts have been signs of a common identity. \u00a0In this time of pandemic, Europe needs more than ever before to be united, to hope and to be open to inspirations. Bruni &#8220;From an integral ecology onto an economy of solidarity\u201d>><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<h6><strong>DIALOGUE \u2013 THE READINESS TO WELCOME THE OTHER<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>About 200 European citizens from <strong>Italy, Croatia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary and Austria<\/strong> were connected to <strong>Graz<\/strong> for a ZOOM meeting. Dr. Petra Steinmair-P\u00f6sel, Professor at the Innsbruck (Austria) University, spoke about the <strong>importance of dialogue for Europe<\/strong>. She insisted that dialogue is neither a discussion nor a debate, but the readiness to welcome the other. \u201cDialogue brings us together. From us [Christians] humanity expects compassion and solutions for the problems linked to migration, the ecology and the crisis of meaning\u201d. Steinmair-Poesel &#8220;A conversation that brings us togehter&#8221; >><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<h6><strong>EUROPEANS OUGHT TO SHOW MORE SELF-ESTEEM<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>In<strong> France<\/strong>, Jean-Dominique Giuliani, <strong>president of the Robert Schumann Foundation,<\/strong> urged all Europeans to enhance their self esteem. He wanted to inject optimism and enthusiasm: \u201cEurope cannot be built in a jiffy. Together, however we are strong. We have the same currency, the same common market and we are all committed to safeguard our environment. Our health system is good\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=zS_kUh6ER4g\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here for the complete recording on YouTube>><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<h6><strong>A DIALOGUE BASED ON THE ENCYCLICAL \u2018FRATELLI TUTTI\u2019<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p><em>Together for Europe<\/em> in <strong>Belgium<\/strong> invited the bishop of Liege, Mgr Delville, and the <strong>Flemish member of the European Parliament<\/strong>, Cindy Franssen, for a meeting at the \u201cChapel for Europe\u201d. The lively dialogue was centred on Pope Francis\u2019 social encyclical \u2018<em>Fratelli tutti\u2019<\/em>. They both underlined the importance of a new creativity: one that is contemplative and, at the same time, active. \u00a0While presenting their project <em>#sauvonsnosaines <\/em>the St Egidio youths exclaimed: <em>\u201c\u00e7a suffit ! Il est temps de changer !&#8221;<\/em> Especially during this time of pandemic they want to provide a voice and support to the older generation.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=01tvdG6uB7c)%20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here to watch the event on YouTube>><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<h6><strong>EUROPE \u2013 HOME FOR THE DIGITAL NOMANDS OF THE Y GENERATION<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>The <strong>young adults<\/strong> of <em>Together for Europe<\/em>, too, marked the May 9 Feast. In sharing the concrete actions they undertook in their respective Countries and Movements, they have shown their professional approach in various spheres of society: law (Germany), ecology (Italy, Austria), politics (Belgium, France), care of the aged (Belgium), help to refugees and social misfits (Netherlands, Greece, Germany). \u2018Generation Y\u2019 came about at the end of the last century; they consider Europe as their home, in which they can freely roam about with a computer under their arm \u2013 the so-called \u2018digital nomads\u2019. A young Dutch man said: \u201cIn Europe we have the possibility of knowing each other well and to be together, even if we are far from each other. This is important, because one can only love what one knows\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The 2021 Feast of Europe found the <strong>support of the prayers of many<\/strong>. The young people met for an hour: \u201cMy Europe \u2013 We pray for Europe\u201d. In the Czech Republic, the Schoenstatt Movement, the St Egidio Community and the Focolare Movement held a prayer novena in preparation for May 9. In Switzerland, too, where May 9 has no special significance, Christians belonging to various Movements have organized a prayer evening to ask God for strength and mercy in this difficult time of a global pandemic.
